Boca Chica. A Dreamlike Reef
Boca Chica is the most popular amongst Dominican beaches. Moreover, it is the closest to Santo Domingo, the capital city of the Dominican Republic, only a 25 minutes¿ drive to the east, past Las Américas International Airport. The beach is sheltered by a huge coral reef and the bluish green colour of the ocean extends over one kilometre. When the sea level lowers during the ebb tide, you can even reach the islet of La Matica on foot.

Boca Chica has always been very popular with Dominicans living in the capital city. Weekend in weekend out, and especially on Sunday and public holidays, Dominican families go out to spend the day on this beach, which can get really crowded. In addition to locals, tourists spending their holidays in nearby hotels and lodgings also come to Boca Chica.

Its proximity to the city of Santo Domingo, its crystal clear water and white sand have turned Boca Chica into the busiest beach in the Dominican Republic. Offshore there are two small islets: Los Pinos, built with the sand dredged out from the port of Andrés in the 1950s, and La Matica, a key featuring mangrove swamps, where a host of bird species live.
Boca Chica beach has a natural breakwater as well as a freshwater spring rising up from the Brujuelas underground (actually underwater) river.
