La Romana.
La Romana is a city in the eastern region of the Dominican Republic where the main source of income comes from tourism. La Romana has a tourist complex just 5 kilometres from the city, covering 2,833 hectares, with a dozen swimming pools, ten restaurants, golf courses, a polo field, as well as a Tuscan-style village, making it a place of tourist interest.

La Romana is currently a prosperous place with many prospects for economic growth, strategically situated between Santo Domingo and Punta Cana. It is an hour and a half west of Punta Cana and an hour and a half east of the capital, Santo Domingo. The closest city is San Pedro de Macorí, half an hour away and Juan Dolio, approximately forty minutes away. La Romana is also very close to Bayahibe, 25 minutes away, and it is the closest place to visit the islands of Saona and Catalina.

Origin of the Name of La Romana

Close to the current marina in La Romana there was a shop which had a romana (steelyard balance) to weigh the goods, when the people of that time went to the place where the shop was located, they used to say "I'm going to la romana", which is where the current name of La Romana comes from.
