Toledo is a destination with a wealth of different views and different routes to take, and as the River Tagus flows by the city it passes an infinity of secret corners filled with tradition and old world memories.
Encircled by the River Tagus, the city is a spectacular showcase of the history of Spanish art. Romans, Visigoths, Moors, Jews, Christians...all the peoples who wrote the history of Spain left their mark in Toledo, until it was declared a World Heritage Site in the twentieth century.

The Alcazar

Toledo's Alcazar is the symbol of the city and has witnessed some of the most outstanding events in the history of Spain.
Its construction dates back to Roman times. It was rebuilt during the reigns of Alphonse VI and Alphonse X "the Wise", giving rise to the first square alcazar with towers at the corners. It was rebuilt again under the Emperor Charles V, this time under supervision of the architect Alonso de Covarrubias. One of its façades is Renaissance in style, another is Plateresque, the sides are mediaeval with turrets and a crenellated watchtower and the southern face is in Churrigueresque style, built to plans by Juan de Herrera.
